JVC HD-56G787 Yellowish blob?

I have a JVC HD-56G787 which I purchased in July 2006. I'm still running on the original bulb, with fairly heavy use (16 months). I did however generate a lot of drywall dust at one time while fixing the ceiling where the skylight leaked (grrr).

Anyway, over the last few months I've noticed on a very bright background (as in white) I see a blobish slightly yellow tinged area covering most of the middle of the screen, stretching from side to side. It's not noticable unless the picture is very white, or a black & white film where the middle starts to look almost sepia toned. I also see some shadowy spots which appear to be on the inside of the screen that are noticable when the picture pans left to right over a light background. This is separate from the yellow blob issue.

Could this be a sign of a bulb going bad? Drywall dust? Light engine? I have 32 months of warranty left from Best Buy to play with...

Any thoughts?

I think that it is more likely dust or the light engine. Probably the only way to tell will be to have a service call. When I had a nebula like you mention it was the light engine going bad. It started off as the green hue in the corner on a dark screen and progressed to the sepia type tone you mention.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll get someone out to have a look. I was thinking about waiting for the bulb to blow, but I might as well head that off too...

Does anybody have an electronic copy of the service manual for the G series? If so, can you email it to me or post it here for retrieval? Thanks.

I had the same problem. Best Buy sent a Tech out who said it was the optical engine. Only problem is that the tech said he'd have to take the TV for 2-4 weeks because he had to take out the optical engine and send it to JVC for them to send a rebuilt one. I called Best Buy and told them I did not want to be without a TV and requested a replacment TV since I paid $1800.00 for the TV in October of 2006. It didn't make a lot of sense to pay $1500 to fix a $1800 TV but they aren't quit as smart and denied my request. Does anyone know if I have any recourse? I asked whay happens if this doesn't repair the problem and they said that the TV is repairable so they will pay to repair it. I brought up the fact that they will have to repair a bulb in the next year or so for $300 at which point they will have paid $1800 and that didn't get me anywhere either.

Apparently they don't use the same logic as auto insurance dealers... lol.

I know, it's not funny.

So I call another "authorized repair facility" I found on JVC's website and inquired about the length of the repair process and cost. They told me the part cost $600 and would be recieved in 3-4 business days at which point they would pick up my television and swap the part out at their facility and return the next day if the television passed the spec testing. I am going to call Best Buy back and see if they will dispatch this repair facility as it seems they are not complete idiots. Who the hell has heard of sending in a damaged part in order to recieve a replacement one wih a 2-4 week turn around? We'll see what happens. I also emailed the Senior Executive Resolution Specialist at best buy with my situation. I found his email address on another site complaining about Best Buys servcie plan.

Here's a shocker. The wonderful zombies working at AIG Warranty Guard which is Best Buys PSP insurance company told me the JVC authorized repair facility is not Best Buy Autjorized. I asked if I could talk to someone with decision making authority and was told I could not. These are the absolute worst people on this planet to deal with. Some mystery person makes a decision somehere and nobody can talk to them. I asked if I wrote a letter to their corporate office woud it get in the proper hands. She said it should. This company should be fined millions of dollars by the federal government for their business practices.
