I have read through some of the boards, but wanted to make sure that my best route is to call a tech.
For a few months our television has had the color go out for a few seconds intermittently. It never seemed to get worse in frequency or duration, so we decided to ignore it. (yeah, stupid)
Last night the screen went out, leaving us with a concave square of light until we turned it off. When we turned it back on the speakers sound like they "pop" about 1-2 times per second and no picture.
We had someone come out 3 years ago to repair the color. He replaced 3 small "filters" or some such. It worked great until the last few months.
Are these symptoms identifiable? I would like to pay for only what needs fixing. An old set like this (1998) could end with a lot of parts that "could" need replacing. I'd really like to hang on to this set for a few more years before switching to a HD set.
