Tough choice as Panasonic will still play 1080i sources. But you do build in a limitation-no Blu Ray or HDDVD 1080p playback. Someday there may be 1080p broadcasts. Actually, I think King has a great idea. Save up a little longer and get the 700U.
Also you can watch any HD-DVDs or blu ray DVDs on any of the displays you listed. The vid signal will simply be downscaled to fit the fixed pixel resolution of the display.

Anyway, Scott, plasmas have an advantage over LCDs in true contrast rations, but that advantage is minimized or lost in environments with more light.
The human eye is more sensitive to contrast ratio changes than resolution, so a 720P display can actually give a better picture than a 1080P disdplay with worse contrast ratios.
