Knowing what we know now on ECM, would you guys go out and buy a new FTA now? My thinking is if i spend 200 bucks on a receiver, if i get free tv for a month or two, its paid off.
with all King's predictions, what do you guys think?
Do it, It's always a gamble. When I got into this hobby in May 2005, I bought my CS4000 not knowing that it could be flashed to get $ channels. I think it is worth it just for the free radio channels.
yeah I would go and get one now...and if you are willing to spend $200 i would definately get a viewsat ultra which ranges from $150 to $180 depending on where you get it from.
Alot of people have it and last year it was rated as the best FTA receiver (I read that some where correct me if I am wrong) but yeah all viewsats have good reputation and the best support in the FTA world...so I would get one of those if I was you. Viewsat Ultra infact.
Sonicview 4000 ($159) or the Viewsat Ultra are BOTH very good and similiar...and DEFINITELY get USB 2.0 stick...and yes financially, U will get your money's worth and save a ton also in the LONG term... there will be FTA for at least 6 months minimum.......until DN decides to do an entire CARD swap to all their subscribers, which will take awhile...and they haven't even started or even talking about yet...so relax and get your FTA receiver...
buy from these...they don't sell cloes/fakes [link removed]
LK, do u think FTA will be up till a card swap? I said this fo r a long time. I hope u agree. I think it will take a lot longer to do a card swap. At least a year. It took dave 1.5 years to do theirs.
NO actually Dave didn't take long to swap cards, 2 months max...but we all knew it was coming 3-4 months ahead ...
and heres how fast they closed channels..I remember posting this...
This information comes directly from a DTV bulletins for employees. Channel shutdown is as follows starting on the 13th of April 2004. (lets hope DTV is like any big corporation and their days slip hehe) This really isn't a rumor... but since everyone is SO "know it all" on here.. I stuck it in here...
The header for this bulletin reads "Access Card Change-Out Channel Removal"
Sorry if I made any type-o's I didn't check it after I was done.
i got my replacement cards 6 months BEFORE they switched to them. My brother got his a several months before me. He lived in Denver at the time. I KNOW it took longer than 2 months. I am talking about the whole process. Sending them out, getting everyone to install and do it correctly.
I remember this cause I never put mine in till it went out, then I had them so long and thru a move that i lost them. So I was down for 2 days while they sent me new ones.
I received ALL my 14 subbed replacement cards, less than 3 weeks prior to the channel shut offs!...shut off began 13 April 2004, and I never got my replacemnt cards until March 24 or so...but we all heard the rumors beginning in January 2004, when RID receivers were also being mandatory for new subscribers..
I think it depended on your geographical location when u received your cards. Thats what I was thinking at the time. I do remember they did the card replacements in phases.
