I was told that the older Sat TV boxes, (specifically Sony SAT HD300), will take a basic cable connection from a cable provider and turn the signal into receive all hd stations. Is that true?

OTA HD channels, yes
I don't know about cable TV service?
But this will be interesting to me if true
Wouldn't that depend on cable service provider if broadcast HDTV in clear?
