I bought a Samsung 46" DLP (HLP4663W) in May 2005. I've had no problems with it for over 2 years, until recently. Now, about half the time I turn it on, the picture appears slightly solarized, and there is a single black line along the bottom - just about where the streaming headlines appear on CNN, etc. I found that if I turn it off, then turn it on again, not with the remote, but by pressing and holding down the ON button on the set for a few seconds, it usually restarts with a normal picture. I've had no indications that the lamp is failing, and when it works, the picture is as bright as ever. Is this a ballast problem? I'd appreciate any help / advice.
well micheal did you hear any sound. Ofcourse I am not an expert but the sound refers to have ballaast problem as it is the source of connection with the lamp.
Have you reset all the connections? did it dim or it went out all at once?
