Experts, I need help..DB9 Cable

My question is that, is there a difference between the DB9 cables which different receivers use? in other words, is there a difference between the DB9 cable used for C00LSAT / Viewsat than the one used for PANSAT 2500A ? Because I bought a cable from a vendor but it doesn't work.
