NOTICE: HAS ANYONE WHO OWNS AN LCD-RP-TV FOR LONGER THAN 6 MONTHS ***NOT*** REQUIRED EITHER A NEW LAMP, FAN OR WHATEVER TO THEIR SET? WHY DOES ANYONE PUT UP WITH THIS TECHNOLOGY? WHY SHUD U BE HELD HOSTAGE FOR SPENDING SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS ONLY TO HAVE YOUR SET DISABLED BY POOR LAMPS, FANS ETC. COMMENTS?

Very interesting. I think anyone who owns these tv's (including DLP) should demand that the manufacturer guarantee the rated hours of the lamp. If it's 10,000 hours then guarantee it. ten k should last four plus years of regular viewing, not two months. Halogen is the poorest form of lighting and can cause fires because of the heat output. Extended warranties should also cover the lamps as well. Calling them consumables is nonsense at several hundred dollars a pop. We must contact all these manufacturer's and let them know to build a better mouse trap.
i bought my tv knowing that the lamp may go out. the 1 yr warranty covers the lamp but most extended warranties do not. I put up with the tech. cause of the impressive pq. If the lamp goes out before the 1 yr warr and panasonic gives me the run around and tells me there is a 30 day wait, then i will buy a lamp on my own and when panasonic finally gets me a lamp, i'll have an extra. no problem. new lamp new tv.
