They seem to have pretty good prices and I was wondering just how reliable they are. I remember the founder got into some trouble in the late 80's/early 90's and it's kind of left a negative impression in my mind about the store.

yes, they are bad news , stay away from them. you are better off paying more to a company you can trust.

Not that Crazy Eddie is alone on this, but they are known for the bait and switch and also in comparison speaker shopping driving the speakers they want to "push" at a higher volume and other sonic tweaks to change your mind.
If, however, you go there with your mind made up previously and their prices are better on that item and you don't allow yourself to be sold something else and the warranty is the manufacturers warranty (not grey market)---go for it.
