Dish Setup...WTF??

Silver Member Username: BobkakabobkakaPost Number: 230 Registered: Jun-06 | Ok..I am really confused...someone who is really kind please be patient and help me out...ok here goes: My dish is not on a plump mast, and my elevation is like below 0 degrees by like 20 degrees. It is currently pointing about 270 degrees (azmith). I am using a single LNB (i.e. one coxial cable cmoing out). Ok...when I enter my pansat 2500a menu and go to installation, then to antenna setup...I get this: T-5/Ku: LNB Type: Standard Freq: 10900 . . Skew: 45 . . . Level 90 Quality 50 Echo 4/Ku: LNB Type: Standard Frequ: 11250 . . Skew: -45 . . . Level 87 Quality 40 Echo 9/T-13/Ku: LNB Type: Standard Frequ: 10750 . . Skew: -45 . . . Level 87 Quality 40 Echo 1.2/Ku: LNB Type: Standard Frequ: 11250 . . Skew: -45 . . . Level 87 Quality 40 Echo 7/Ku: LNB Type: Standard Frequ: 11250 . . Skew: -45 . . . Level 87 Quality 40 Echo 8.10/Ku: LNB Type: Standard Frequ: 11250 . . Skew: -45 . . . Level 87 Quality 40 Nimiq 1/Ku: LNB Type: Standard Frequ: 10900 . . Skew: -45 . . . Level 87 Quality 40 Nimiq 2/Ku: LNB Type: Standard Frequ: 11250 . . Skew: -45 . . . Level 87 Quality 40 Echo 3/Ku: LNB Type: Standard Frequ: 11250 . . Skew: -45 . . . Level 87 Quality 40 When I blind scan every satellite...I get the same channels...which are some int'ls 1 ppv (which is international) and the locals...etc. Which right now only locals are working but thats not my problem at the moment. So how can all this be true with 1 dish, 1 standard LNB, and no dish movement?? Someone please tell me wat is going in... I live in the Greater Toronto Area and I live 35 meters above ground level and my dish is behind a window...a very large window...so ya...help please. BTW all the channels I get are DN...no BEV. |

New member Username: Jenifer_contrerasTampa, Florida USA Post Number: 2 Registered: Jul-06 | OMAR READ THIS: You can use the 18" dishes and LNBs from Dish Network or DirecTV. Most of these dishes come with DSS (legacy) LNBs. The basic LNB specifications are: type = DSS KU band; input frequency range = 12.2 to 12.75 GHz; output frequency range = .95 to 1.5 GHz; polarization = circular; local oscillator (LO) = 11.250 GHz; it has no builtin switch. If you have any doubt about your dish and/or LNB, there are many references on the web as to what works. The drawback to using standard 18" dishes is that you probably will have to mount a separate dish for each satellite. You can cobble together an 18" dish with multiple LNBs but you will lose some performance -- this can be a big problem in northern U.S. and Canada. In this case, you should consider a larger dish for best performance. 1.3.5.2. Mounting the Dish: When you mount the dish, use a level to get the mount as plumb as possible. Locate a satellite finding program on the web (http://www.satlex.de/en/azel_calcfirst_1.html). Use it to get the elevation and azimuth of the satellites that you want to find in relation to where you live. For this example, lets assume that you want to find 110 (Echo6,8) and 119 (Echo 7), the Dish Network satellites. 1.3.5.3. Preliminary Setup You may want to buy or borrow a "Satellite Finder" tool. They cost between $15 and $400, a $15 one will work just fine. It is a signal strength indicator that has a meter, and often a sounder or buzzer. The more expensive ones identify the actual satellite to which the dish is pointed and do not need to be connected to a receiver to work. The Satellite Finder can greatly ease dish alignment, especially if you cannot see the receiver's onscreen display from the dish. Turn the receiver off. They are sensitive static electricity, so anytime that you disconnect or reconnect an LNB make sure that the receiver is off -- unplug it or shut the power off with the switch on the back. Starting with one of the dishes (satellite 110), mount the dish with the screws loose enough so you can move the dish but not so loose that the dish will not stay where you put it. Connect the dish's LNB directly to the receiver (no DiSEqC). If you are using a Satellite Finder (the inexpensive kind), at the dish connect it to the LNB and to the cable that connects to the receiver. 1.3.5.4. In the Receiver: . • Make sure that the cable that goes to the LNB is connected and then turn the receiver on. . • Go to the main Menu and select "Installation." . • In the Installation Menu, select "Antenna Setup." .• In "Antenna Setup" you should only see the satellites for which you previously loaded the channel list (110 and 119). Choose the satellite that you want to set up first (110 here). Enter the following settings -- they apply to satellites Nimiq 1 (91), Echo 6&8 (110), and Echo 7 (119). .* LNB Type = Standard .* LNB Local Freq. = 11250 .* 22KHz = Off .* DiSEqC = Off .* Skew = 0 .* TP = any, in this case .* Positioner Setting = Disable .* Satellite Scan = All . • Exit Antenna Setup and Save . • Exit all the way out of the Main Menu. The channels will probably say scrambled or bad . • Hit the "SAT" key on the remote and select satellite 110. . • Only the satellite 110 channels are displayed. Select a channel (this ensures that you are on satellite 110) and Exit. . • Hit the "SIG" key on the remote and check the Signal Strength Meter. Signal meters find ANY satellite that is close to the alignment of the dish. What is done by setting up the receiver to view a channel on satellite 110 is that as soon as you find the correct satellite there will be picture and sound on the selected channel -- thus, you are guaranteed to be on the correct satellite. 1.3.5.5. At the Dish: . • Adjust the dish to the correct elevation for your state/province. All dishes have degree indicators on them, though not usually very accurate; use them to help you adjust the dish. . • Slowly rotate the dish in the general direction of the satellite's azimuth using a compass as a guide. Standing directly under the dish while using the compass is usually the easiest way to find the correct heading. . • Use the onscreen satellite Signal Strength meter in the receiver ("SIG" on the remote), or a Satellite Finder tool if the TV is far away. The Satellite Finder will make a sound that gets more intense as the dish comes into alignment with a satellite. The intensity of the Satellite Finder tool can be turned down as the signal gets stronger. This increases the dish's position sensitivity while you are trying to get the dish perfectly aligned. Remember that the Satellite Finder tool will find any satellite that is close to the direction of the dish, so when the sound gets more intense and the meter kicksup check the TV to see if the channel that you selected has picture and sound and is the correct channel. If not, you are not pointed at the correct satellite. . • Alternately adjust both the elevation and azimuth in very small increments until the signal is at its maximum. Then tighten all bolts to clamp the dish permanently into position. . • Now repeat the process for each additional dish/LNB that you are setting up. . • After all dishes/LNBs are setup, shut off the power to the receiver and install the DiSEqC. If you are using only one LNB, you do not need a DiSEqC and can skip the next step. . • Now, turn the receiver power back on, go back into "Antenna Setup" and select the correct DiSEqC number for each of the connected LNBs. The numbers on the DiSEqC where the LNBs are connected should match the numbers entered for DiSEqC in the Antenna Setup menu. Save and Exit, Exit all the way out of the menu. 1.3.5.6. Watch TV! |
