I have a 60" philips projection tv for about a 2 yrs now. Everything is great, no prob. I got something in the mail from philips wanting to sell me a '5 year picture tube service contract' for $110. As they say, if any of my pic tubes fail, someone will come and replace it at no add. Cost. .. Is this true? And would you recommend me purchasing this? (They claim pic tubes are expensive... How much do they run? Installation?)
I can only tell you what the local RCA repair guy told me. I asked the same question because after the warranty was up on my big screen RCA only offered an extended warranty on the picture tube...no other part.
The RCA guy told me that the picture tube is the last thing that will fail.
I would suspect the picture tube is expensive as is any repair on these beasts.
In five years you will want a new televsion anyway so why fix and old one? My belief is that these sets are only going to last five years anyway so treat them like Bic pens...throwaways.
