DVDWatcher | Do you have more problems with rented DVDs? --Check the condition before inserting in your player. I usually wash rental dics with some warm water & a little dish soap this removes finger prints & other gunk--works wonders! Unfortunately this cleaning doesn't help much if the disc is badly scratched, though. You might also try a DVD cleaner for your player. |

DVDWatcher | Bring it in again to the shop along with the DVD's that don't work on it. Hopefully they can replicate your problems. Have you tried contacting Onkyo directly about the problem to see if they have any suggestions? |

Anonymous | I am having similar problems with my Kenwood DVF-J6050 400 DVD changer. It dosen't freeze or skip, but quite often says it can not play this type of disc. sometimes I can remove the disc, wipe it off and it works fine. Sometimes I have to put it in my single disc player to watch it. I can't find anything on the internet concerning this problem, and have not had the time to try and take it to a repair shop. |

| It may be the region locks on them. The DVDs them self are encoded with regoin locks from some countrys. So you may want to see where they are made and where they come from. Also you can buy codes to unlock them. If you find that this is not it look at the perental locks on the dvd player. Sometimes they act up and shut things down. |

Edward Smith | I just bought a factory recondition SP300 direct from Onkyo and have had it freeze up twice on two disks so far. (Considering I just bought it and have viewed 6 disks so far this is not looking good) Once it managed to recover enough to continue playing but on the other disk (which was brand new, just taken out of the package) it froze and would not continue even after powering down and attempting to restart at the same spot. I took the DVD out and tried it on my computer with PowerDVD and was able to play it just fine so I dont think it's a problem with the disk. Ed |

Anonymous | If you have it in an entertainment center, the player might be getting toohot. Try setting it out so it can get good ventalation and see if the problem goes away. My RCA always skipped and froze until I put it in a better ventalated area. |

Person | My DVD is a multiple region DVD, except for region one. I played it on all of my multi-region DVD players and it works fine. The only thing that doesn't work is the special features. I even tried them on all my friends multi-region DVD player and the specials still doesn't work. It must be the DVD that has the problems, not the DVD players. I don't know if it was recorded or not but, When I click on special features, it shows the introduction with someone talking then on the middle of a word it freezes and skips back to the main munu. I'm talking about the special features with the bonus material not the ones with captions and sound. Why does it do that? I tried cleaning it, I even fixed the scratches with the Skipdoctor but it didn't work. If it is not recorded, what can fill in the missing parts of the DVD, what machine? I can't buy another one. I think it is a DVD-RW because there is no bars or writing on the inner circle of the DVD, the one closest to the hole that we put our finger in to hold the disc, the hole that we have to snap on to a DVD-ROM drive. |

| I have an ONKYO HTR-500, A/V Receiver w/5 disc DVD changer, I had also bought a DV-CP500 5 disc DVD changer... Both have the same problem. If you are watching a DVD and the scene has a bright flash in it, such as a close up of an explosion, a bright light flash, even a camera flash, it makes the screen flicker. Since both do it, I am wondering if it is a known issue by Onkyo? |

| Pioneer HTD-520 When attempting to play DVD's it may play the Dream Works intro great(only if shut off then on again) but then locks-up when "menu" appears on the front of the unit. On one DVD (Jimmy Neutron) It makes it to menu mode only to freeze up if I select anything (play, options, ext.). It played on 1 of the 3 dvd's I was trying to play maybe because it dose not have a menu option? I then tried to play that dvd again but it just locked up at menu. I called a repair center and they told me it may be the "mathchip" (there was a bad batch of them) or a "firmware" problem. Anyway I was wondering what you think may be wrong with it. I got the system in this condition. Any help would be much appreciated. |

I have noticed that when I watch some movies (Not all) some annoying green splotches (maybe colorstripes problems, I do not know ?). My DVD Player will only allow me to even put in a disc if the "PREMIUM DIGITAL" message stops rotating for days and finally says "NO DISC." I am taking it to an authorized dealer to check it out but if anyone has an ideas what the problem is I'll take any info. Anonymous | Update to my 27-Oct-2003 5pm message: Took My Koss KD260-2 unit to the service centre. They were unable to identify a player problem until I gave them the exact disks with which I had problems. They confirmed that they would not play on my unit but were okay on others, also that other DVDs of the same title could play on my unit. Based on this they determined that the laser must be of low power, and replaced the laser assembly. Since then no problems with my problematic DVDs. Here's hoping the future is just as rosey. |

Anonymous | hey all!i think toshiba is best at reading scratched dvd's-with probably pioneer second and sony claims they are good but i have not confirmed this-HK may be good too--as well as SOME of the off brand cheap chinese players.I have heard of good luck with taking compressed air can and using too clean laser(unplug dvd player before opening-laser can be harmfull-plug in only after you have put back together)-i think you can also use 91% alchohol with cotton swabs first before using compressed air but just dab it on and try not too leave any cotton or drip alchohol(if you do drip let it evaporate completely before plugging in-it's flammable)-NOTE:I have not tried this myself so do at your own risk!I think it's pretty safe and I did read people had good results.Panasonic is I think ok but not quite as good as tosh at reading discs(if you prefer pan you'll probably be fine-unless perhaps you rent alot of scratched discs).tosh seems to have good firmware and pioneer too-pioneer used to guarantee to upgrade your firmware(via disc they would send you)within 2-3 years of your purchase but I'm not sure if they still guarantee that---I think pioneer has always been at the forefront of being on top of firmware issues though. |

Anonymous | i bought a box set of dvd's just recently...a trilogy..very popular trilogy actually...well one of the discs would freeze at a chapter and then skip to the next. i use a xbox and have never had playback problems. i took the set back to walmart and exchanged it. i got the new one home and it did the same thing. in the same spot. i returned it to a different walmart (thinking maybe the other got a bad batch) and exchanged it. It works perfectly fine. Has this happenend to anyone before? Buying a new dvd and it skips or freezes without scratches or anything???? |
