Hello gang. I would appreciate some help. I might buy a HD DVR (I subscribe to DTV) and use it instead of my HD receiver and standard DVR. In the long run, I might save money because I am spending $4.99/mo for the two receivers instead of one. Here are my questions:

* If I buy an HD DVR not from DTV, does it need to have a card? What are the consequences if it does not? Can I use an existing card in one of my other recievers? How is all of this info given to DTV?

* If I sell my standard DVR and HD reciever, say on E-bay, do I need to sell them with a card?

* What, in general, are your thoughts on HD DVR's?

I really appreciate all the help you have been on this board!

The DVR needs a card, and it has to be activated by DTV. I think you will find you will have an additional charge for the DVR programming service (it was either $3.99 or $4.99). Anyone buying you receiver will need a card and will have to have that card activated (it will be deactivated when you tell DTV you changed receivers).

Thanks Art. So if I buy an HD DVR without a receiver card, how hard is it to get one? I can't take the card out of my HD receiver and put it into my HD DVR/ Thanks for your help!

When you buy a receiver it comes with the card. You then have to call DTV to have it activated.
