Hooking up 1996 Zenith TV to 1996 VCR and 2005 DVD player?

I looked at other posts on this forum and tried to figure my problem out but can't.My problem is I can't get my VCR to record from the TV in color.It records in B&W. My VCR plays movies correctly, my DVD plays correctly, but my VCR won't record in color. I'm using an RF Modulator and I have cable connection coming thru the wall. Can someone give me details instructions on how to achieve success?
