Is it possible to connect 2 seperate cable boxes into 1 dvd recorder, therefore allowing me to watch one cable programme while recording another?

If the recorder has 2 line inputs, connect one to each input. If you want to watch and record, connect one to the TV and one to the recorder. You'll have to split the incoming cable to both boxes.
