Im fairly new to the hdtv world. I do have comcast cable tv, but only one box in the living room.
I would like to buy a HDTV for my room, and I do not have a cable box in there.
My question is, If I buy a HDTV with a built in tuner, can I connect it through the coax cable and get HDTV quality? Or is a box a must even though it has a built in tuner?
I had a Sony KDF-60XS955. It has the built in ATSC tuner. It picks up the HDTV off of Comcast cable, but the numbering will looks funky. 100.1, 100.2,...
It can also pick up the HDTV Over The Air.
It will also pick up the pay channels; however, since the digital ATSC receiver isn't recognized, it will play the movie and stop and rewind play again, rewind.....

An ATSC tuner picks up OTA digital/HD broadcasts. An internal QAM tuner is used to pickup digital or unscrambled HD signals via your cable system. Two different animals.
