Can't get dolby digital output..?!!

I recently took the leap and bought some surround speakers and a digital coax cable to connect my DVP-NC615 Sony 5-disc DVD/CD player to my Marantz 7300 a/v receiver.

The problem is this: I can't seem to get the DVD player to send a real surround signal. I see on my receiver that it is receiving digital PCM signal .. left and right only. The DVD player itself tells me that it's playing "Dolby Digital 3/2.1". The material I'm playing is, indeed, 5.1 capable (Star Wars Episode I, Diana Krall Live in Paris).

I am very familiar with all the on-screen menus for both the receiver and the dvd player (although the dvd player is annoying to try and understand, because I seem to have lost the instruction manual). I have turned off all things on the DVD that modify the sound output, and I simply don't see anything left to change that would help.

I have also read in places that this DVD player is not good (some unfortunate people have had it stop working at all, but mine is working faithfully except this one problem -- *knock on wood*) Does anyone have any suggestions?

Oh hell, never mind, I found an online instruction manual that told me I have to hit STOP in order to access a bunch of other options. *mutter* Damn unintuitive devices :P
