Unregistered guest | I just got Comcast HD digital cable and a Pioneer Plasma TV with a media box. The Pioneer TV has two tuners and Picture in picture but it isn't working. The installer said it won't work because its coming through the cable box and can only utilize one tuner. The TV works via an Input line from cable box to media box. Is this correct ? How can I get the pic in pic working on the plasma TV with input from the cable box. Sound comes from an Audio Receiver. |
Anonymous | Does anybody know what the Comcast code is for programing a Sylvania plasma? The ones in the manual don't work and "code search" can't find it.It is a 42" that I purchased about 4 months ago. Any suggestions? |
Bronze Member Username: CableguyDeep in the ... U.S. Post Number: 61 Registered: Mar-05 | Mark, Get a two splitter and split the cable feed from the wallplate, take one side of the split directly to the STB, the other side directly to the cable (antenna) input on your TV. The STB should have the component cables connected to your component inputs for HD channels, and should also have either composite video or s-video connected for all of your non-HD channels. If you've connected it properly, using composite/s-video with your antenna (basic cable)PIP should work. |
Wildcard Unregistered guest | Mark...go get a dual tuner dvr from Comcast.2 tuners, hd and recorder!! Cable box are legal to own only if they are not capable of receiving channels NOT paid for. Digital Cable boxes are stolen UNLESS you have the orginal sale paperwork form motorola, because you can purchase a legal digital box. On e bay...all stolen!! The ONLY way to reactivate a disconnected cable box is for the warehouse for that MSO to "reformat" the box. |
Anonymous | I have a general instrument dct 2000 cable box thru comcast. How do you reset the memory on the box? Can anyone help? |
Anonymous | Well I want to steal cable really bad. I just got a cable box from someone who works for the cable company. I believe that there must be a way to get the programing codes that are sent via cable to the box to program (or to shut off programming as the case may be) So I would like for someone to direct me to a place where I can A: get the codes or B: find another way to steal cable. Yes it is wrong to steal. Yes, I will be a thief if I can get the codes. No, I am not gonna feel guilty about it. So if you know what I am looking for please help me and the other thieves on here who would like the same thing. If you want to lecture me about my behavior in order to feel good about yourself then don't waste your time in responding. The cable company in my area is insight digital. I have a general intstument box and would like to have every channel in the world for nothing. Again. Yes I am wrong. I know this. Don't waste your time telling me this. Tell me what I want to know or post something else. |
Peas Unregistered guest | "I believe that there must be a way to get the programing codes that are sent via cable to the box to program (or to shut off programming as the case may be)" I believe in the frigging Easter Bunny, does that mean it exists? Of course not and neither do these mysterious magical codes of yours exist, other than in your imagination. The STB has a serial number hard wired into the circuitry. This serial number must be transmitted back to the cable company headend in order for it to be authorized for reception. Therefore you will never get a stolen cable box to work on any system in the US unless: Pay close attention to these instructions: 1.You must first pull the head off your tiny little pecker. 2. Then staple it to that point on top of your skull. So everyone will know what a dickhead you are. I hope this helps, Peas |
DoingItMyWay Unregistered guest | You can consider it stealing or not, but if you are paying for channels, and I am not talking about premium channels, I mean for instance channels 2-13. Now lets say I am willing to pay for those channels "enhanced". i.e. HDTV. It SEEMS like this should be a standard, i.e. you buy a TV from best buy or somesuch, and it should work. Or a tv, and tuner.. Again standard components. Ok, if I want to add premium channels, they need to have a way to protect their content, i.e. proprietary scrambler/box combination. Here's where this is annoying to me. I work late nite, and I only watch like 4-6 shows on main networks (WB, FOX ABC/NBC etc). I have a high end computer setup capable of tuning and capturing HDTV. I contacted comcast to order HDTV, described my setup and if this would work, SPECIFICALLY telling them I only receive HDTV via RF. He came out, with those cool looking little box, with all these cool inputs/outputs.. Wow firewire! Screw the tuner, hell I can do that direct to mpeg, grab cc and onto my media server for later viewing. Nope.. doesn't work, only this thing, and that thing works.. He wouldn't even try. I told him, leave the damn box, it's worth the 5 bux/month for me to try.. Nope.. So I say screw it, look around on ebay, see if I can find this box, and around on the web and see if it can be activated. I see a couple boxes, dct5100/6208 read this, discover they have a box that will record.. Cool, problem solved... Nope, not available in my area.. Crap... I'm willing to PAY for this stuff, but I am NOT willing to make my TV viewing on THEIR schedule. Why I cannot design my own entertainment system, but am forced to mold it to theirs? I get cableguy's points about supporting someone else's crap, but look the phone company has been working that succesfully for YEARS now. They bring it to your termination, you and the manufacturer of what you buy deals with it from there. Simple and works. Why this standard can't be applied to television I don't know. Again I am talking about basicly broadcast television over cable, not premium content. And no I cannot get broadcast, I live in hilly country, in a condo - no outside antennas inside ones dont work. Pardon the long windedness, just seems there's so much antipathy againt someone that wants to have their entertainment THIER way. Yes, getting a pirate box to steal HBO is not right, I have no interest in HBO, this is why I have hollywood video pass- again so I can watch premium movies when *I* want to. I am quite willing to pay reasonable for digital broadcast, but I should be able to get it in alternate mediums if the technology is there. Such as activating an already existing firewire, or s-video etc port. Or letting me do it myself. |
DoingItMyWay Unregistered guest | Also note - in no way am I responding to the 2 posts previous to mine - Obviously someone was being sarcastic. (I would guess). |
Random Guest Unregistered guest | To the person above who has a real life and no time for tv: try to get a DVR box. The new Comcast Cable DVR/HDTV box is awesome. Dual tuners. We can program the DVR to record any show we want, then we can watch something else while it records, thanks to the Swap button. Or we can go to bed, live our lives, etc. Comcast's DVR box has room to grow, to allow future technology: an ethernet port, USB port, Smart Card slot... and since I'm legally renting it from Comcast, it'll work when the tech catches up. We have only had the DVR for a few weeks, and it's already worth the $9/month. We can pause live shows! Rewind them! Flip back to live broadcast! Do all this while recording something else! You get the idea. I read on a blog that someone cancelled his TiVO once he got Comcast's DVR box. We already know our DVR is better than our friend's limited TiVO service. Thanks Comcast, you bloated corporate monopoly, you actually came up with something worth the expense. |
DoingItMyWay Unregistered guest | "Thanks Comcast, you bloated corporate monopoly, you actually came up with something worth the expense" lmao.. I actually asked if they had that, they dont apparently. But thanks. Also I like to capture it, I can capture the CC as well and encode that w/ the video, that way I dont have to rewind if I dont hear a line. |
Bronze Member Username: CableguyDeep in the ... U.S. Post Number: 77 Registered: Mar-05 | DoingItMyWay, Let me get this correct, you're just looking to be able to record standard (basic) analog channels, or HD OTA...not things like HBO or other digitally encrypted channels? If that's the case, wouldn't a DVD recorder with IEEE1394 firewire ports record from a cable tuner card in your pc to the DVD burner? I'm not an expert in this type of equipment, but I know some customer's that have the firewire ports on some of our STB's that do this quite frequently. Maybe somebody that's a little more tech savy about PC based tuner cards can answer better then I, so I'll let them tell you what you can and can't do. It would seem to me on the surface, if you have firewire ports on your PC, you should be able to record from PC to DVD. Open for discussion, I'm willing to learn. |
Wildcard Unregistered guest | Media center type PC's are awesome, With a large enough hd or a few, you can store tons of music and movies.... |

Unregistered guest | I too wish to pay for my cable and receive it on any tv in my house without paying for each box. Including hbo. I am currently an hbo subscriber and I am paying 3.95 a month through Comcast for my cable box. I recently lost 2 of my 3 hbo channels. After waiting a couple of days to see if they got the problem fixed, I called. I was told that I could no longer get my hbo family channel and my hbo2 channel because my analog box was outdated and that I needed to get a digital box. The digital box was going to be $ 10.00 a month. So in order to get back the hbo family channel I would have to pay $ 6.00 dollars more a month. I have no problem renting the equipment, I just wish the prices were lower. I would pay $ 3.00 a month per box and I would get 2 boxes. We all know the prices are not going to go down. Mostly because we all have plenty of time and energy to sit here and read all of the posts of people b$tching about cable companies and their prices, but we don't seem to have the energy to do something about it. Belive me, we have the power to get the prices lowered. Cable companies have to make money, but they don't have to be billionairs. All we have to do is quit b$tching and stop purchasing cable or satalite. It would suck for awhile, but if even half of the cable customes dropped their service because of price, then the cable companies would respond quickly. We b$tch about the price of gas, but we don't carpool, or take a week out of the year that we do whatever we can to not buy any gas. We are lazy. The only thing we have energy to do is sit and post complaints about cable companies. Why do pay-per-view boxing matches cost $ 49.95? Probably because there are enough people that will pay it. If people refused to pay it, then soon we would be able to get a pay-per-view fight for $ 10.00. Like so many postings here have indicated, wishing it so doesn't make it so. Sorry to have interupted everyone, I will let you get back to wasting your time. |

Bronze Member Username: CableguyDeep in the ... U.S. Post Number: 98 Registered: Mar-05 | could I inquire as to does this happen when watching DVD's or VHS too, or only when you're watching cable? Sorry I just want to make sure I have all the symptoms before I try and point you in the right direction. If it happens when watching something other then cable, it sounds like something in your TV is cutting loose and should be looked into. The v.mode button you're pushing, I assume that's on your actual TV's remote control, if it's like my video mode on my remote it has preset color parameters that change with each push of the button, and this might help explain why you have to keep pushing it to correct the problem. I'd call a TV repair shop and ask them to take a look at it, if you have another TV in the house you could hook up for a day and see if the problem occurs during a 24 hour period, then hook up the one you're having problems with. If during that 24 hour period nothing happened on your temp TV but happens again on your original TV call a TV repairman and have them come take a look. If it happens on both TV call your cable company and have them check your lines and signal strength, not that I can think of anything cable would be doing that can cause your picture to solarize. Hope this helps |

So why the sh*t should I rent a box for an older tv that's not cable ready when I could buy a analong box on ebay for $15, Basic cable is not a pay per tv thing like digital cable, you pay for it and can hook it up to as many tv's as you damn well please. You are absolutely correct, you shouldn't have to pay to rent a box, in fact the FCC made sure you have the right, I'm sure you saw the post I put up on April 14th in this thread. No point in rehashing this issue, I hope you find what you're looking for...I work for a cable company so I don't know too much about after market analog converters, sorry. Hopefully somebody in this thread knows where and what model is going to work for what you are seeking. Again the key word on buying your own, you are allowed as long as that converter doesn't descramble enycrypted channels there is nothing wrong with purchasing your own. Regards, |

The technician (and I use that term loosely) who installed the box claimed that we needed an A/B switch to do this. I don't see how an A/B switch will help if the Motorola converter box only allows one of the unscrambled channels through. JohnnyL Unregistered guest | Here's Another Option for those who want to own their own cable box converters. There is one Motorola STB that you can LEGALLY own. I spoke with COMCAST and they said they will support it including all of the premium channels you subscribe to. The model is Motorola DCP501 which is a Digital Cable Converter Plus DVD/CD/MP3 player/AM & FM Receiver/Audio/Video Receiver, 100 watts x 5 channels. And it costs less than $200, so you get alot for your money. Wondering if anyone else has experience with this product. Here is the link for the product in Amazon: http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=anotherkaroke-20&o=1&p=8&l=as1&asins=B00008ZPJN&fc1 =000000&=1&lc1=0000ff&bc1=000000<1=_blank&IS2=1&f=ifr&bg1=ffffff&f=ifr (This is actually a link to a link for the product - a little roundabout, I know) |
Peas Unregistered guest | Here is the first customer review for this wonderful item you are trying to sell: "We bought these for our lodge (63 2 & 3 Bdrm Units). While the combination of components in a small package is exactly what we needed, we have experienced a large amount of product failures. Out of 67 units ordered, we have experienced a 30 to 40% failure rate." Peas |
JohnnyL Unregistered guest | Well at least it is a legal option - you can decide on your own whether you like this STB or not. Comcast also mentioned that there is another digital STB that consumers can purchase DCT6500 or something like that. |
JohnnyL Unregistered guest | One other thing about the DCP501 If you are worried that it may break down and then can recoup the purchase price by purchasing an additional 1 to 2 year warranty for $20-40. I figure that the Motorola is worth it because where I live rental of additional boxes are $7.50/month plus taxes so after 2 years of renting a box it would cost me $180+, which is about the purchase price of the STB (w/o additional warranties) Besides I know my credit card company will automatically extend the warranty for an additional year beyond the Motorola's 12 months, so at the very least (if a unit breaks down exactly after 2 years of service warranties) then I will still break even. Plus I had the additional benefit of the other features of the STB. So even with a 30-40% failure rate - you still may consider purchasing the DCP501. Of course you would also have to figure in the effort of dealing with warranty service if it does break down. |

Nomoredirectv Unregistered guest | Anyone know of a good Digital HDTV box with a HDMI connection that will work with comcast? Thanks |
RBC III Unregistered guest | I just wasted twenty minutes reading the ignorant trash posted by a bunch of idiot b-stards. I dont care what your arguement is regarding the use of an "unauthorized" cable box. If you think it is stealing to enjoy the services you pay for in more than one room in your house then answer this: is it stealing if you buy a "rabbit" that will transmit the signal from one cable box to every tv in your house? Think about that for just a moment. Now tell me what the difference is exactly. Cable service is billed to my house each month. It is not billed to a certain room in my house. Different rooms in my house do not have different addresses. My house and all its various rooms have the same street address. Digital cable is nothing more than very creative marketing. Sell your customers a service that can only be recieved in one location in their home using the equiptment that you lease them. If they want to watch in more than one room you charge them for an additional reciever to receive the signal that they are paying a premium for. THEN, you wax the pockets of enough politicians to make it a crime for your customers to own their own equiptment so that they may enjoy the signal that they are paying for in more than one location in their house. If you think my logic is flawed here is the perfect analogy: you go to a drive-in theatre showing four different double features on four seperate screens, after the first film you move your car to a different screen so that you can watch a different movie for the second half of the double feature. Is this stealing? Nope! And why not? Because drive-ins dont have lobbying power in government. In other words if owning and recieving the signal you are paying for with a box you bought elsewhere is a crime then someone is really full of sh/t and it aint me brother. In closing, if you guys dont know how to "reprogram" or reboot "unauthorized" recievers then why dont youy just admit it instead of engaging in name calling as to who is a theif and who is the bad guy when you clueless b-stards should just be saying "I dont know the answer to that question" The only semi reasonable answer I've heard from anyone was the one about serial numbers being encoded in the circuitry. However there are ways around everything if you are smart enough. I would like to see a cable company try to prosecute someone for using an "unauthorized" box. This wouldnt stand a snowballs chance in hell in any court for any residential user and you know it. Have fun. |
Silver Member Username: CableguyDeep in the ... U.S. Post Number: 219 Registered: Mar-05 | RBC, actually TWC has successfully sued people in court for theft of services. First of all, if you hook up a rabbit, you're bound to what the singular STB is on anywhere in the house, so what practical use is that? Secondly, at least where I work, we only charge for the STB on additional outlets, you and everybody else that I've heard from in the past 20 years gripes about this. Well it's never going to change... the FCC set the rules, the Cable Companies have to comply (not that I think they would be doing anything any differently if the FCC hadn't set the standards) Your argument based on your opinion, will not be argued as wrong, it's your opinion and you're entitled to it. Replace the "cable tv" with "telephone" you can have 20 phones in your house, you only pay one bill right? How many of those phones can you use at one time...ONE, hence why you pay ONE BILL. Now....say you want to be able to use all 20 phones INDEPENDENTLY, guess what that's 20 additional phone numbers that the phone company will charge you...(and you thought cable was ripping you lol) We don't charge for the additional services, just the equipment to view it with. Again, I've posted this before, if you've got a beef, go complain to the FCC they set the rules. Hollywood, and all the stations that are broadcast have certain rights to their services that are guarenteed protected from piracy. ~sorry I just get tired of hearing people bash the cable companies~ You may agree with me, or you may disagree...but maybe if you did a little more research on who's causing all your headaches, you could properly direct your grievance's to the people that need to be grieved. |
RBC Unregistered guest | The FCC sounds like another government entity not unlike the Insurance commission. For years I have been fighting the insurance industry and their relationship with my own industry and business. It is a tough fight. Educating people, filing complaints, rallying, lobbying etc... are at the core of my efforts. The problems with the insurance industry are out of control for many reasons. The main reason is simply this: the Insurance Commission (the government entity designed to police the industry)is run by ex-ceo's and insurance company executives either retired or on sabbitical from their regular job. Hence, the problems only seem to get worse. Therfore, if the FCC has set the rules that allow cable companies to hold consumers hostage, by not letting them buy and use their own equiptment, then how can you not realize that my idea that cable companies lobby for these laws is somehow the fault of the FCC. The FCC is obviously complicit in this collusion. That sucks. I love capitalism and everything about it. Everything that is except corruption. This is corruption plain and simple. I realize that you say "not that I think they would be doing anything differently if the FCC hadnt set the standards" tells me that you realize that corruption exists in these matters. When a government favors a given industry over the rights of consumers... well that is not capitalism. Secondly, Where is the competition? I know you'll say I could have a dish and you are right BUT that is hardly competition. Real competition would be five or more cable companies to choose from. Then again, there are countless insurance companies to choose from and they very clearly collude regarding rates and payment procedures. I dont have all the answers or I would never have even came to this site. I do know this: I am an honest hard working guy BUT if you rip me off I will find a way to rip you off in return. The cable company is quite simply a rip off. I am very curious about one thing. Does everyone have cable? What I mean is; Wal-Mart, which is a hard core capitalist company that I can appreciate, said before Christmas last year that they were going to lower prices. Is this because they wanted to make less money during the holiday shopping season? Of course not. In other words dont the cable companies realize that many more people would likely have cable, with all the bells and whistles, if it were a better value? I dont know about you but I love price wars. What I'm saying is we will never get our moneys worth from any organization, industry or sector that has a serious lack of competition. Let alone one that has the complicity of a government organization. Maybe if I watched more TV I wouldnt feel the way I do. Maybe I would feel like I'm getting my moneys worth. Also about the rabbit I live alone so one would probably work ok for me. A little inconvenient perhaps but it would work. By the way good analogy with the phone company except; if I could buy my own digital cable recievers but could only use one at a time that would be better than the current situation. At least I'd have one in my bar room and one in my living room and bedroom. I still think the drive-in thing is kind of hard to disagree with. Dont get me wrong I am not trying to justify stealing. I think the cable company is doing that for me. You know just because someone says a given thing is a crime doesnt make it so. Example; in some states "blue laws" still are on the books. These laws state that things such as: oral sex, pre-marital sex are illegal. The most common one most are familiar with is that cars and liquor may not be sold on sunday. Am I a criminal if I do these things? Well yes, according to some. But I can tell you some of these I am not going to stop doing because someone deemed it illegal. Finally, If you think I'm full of sh-t just say so. I think you can say someone is wrong and not think twice about it. We all know what we believe and know to be true. If I know something to be 100% true then I will tell those with opposing opinions that they are wrong. Sometimes people with differing opinions can both be right based on opposing viewpoints. But mostly one is full of it. However, most of what we discussed here is subjective to viewpoint. Regarding the issue of stealing or not stealing we can argue that all year long. It would probably be fun too. I would like to say just one more thing; to hell with the Hollywood establishment and their degenerate filth. They are so completely out of touch with Middle America it is just amazing. The FCC would do well to stick in their as-s-s instead of average consumers. Take care, RBC |
Silver Member Username: CableguyDeep in the ... U.S. Post Number: 225 Registered: Mar-05 | RBC, you make about the same good argument everybody else does, I'm not disagreeing with you...well exception ""tells me that you realize that corruption exists in these matters"", no actually I don't realize this corruption exist. Does corruption exist? sure it does. I don't believe this is the case though, again Hollywood and all the production companies set their level of content protection. There is a reason channels are scrambled, it's to ensure somebody that is not paying for them is not receiving them. A cable system get's a better "rate" from a network provider if they are assured the channel can not be viewed without decryption devices. Now that being said, you're all for capitalism...where would a company be if everything was made available free to any consumer with a STB? Another point where I'm at we do have direct competition, there are 4 cable companies in the greater area, in some areas 3 are in direct head to head competition. Factor in satellite and phone companies all trying to get that almighty dollar, we are definately no monopoly here. Bottom line, the only argument that I'll agree with is there needs to be competition. I remember what it was like before the FCC opened up the market. We were the only game in town save satellite. Now we are forced to provide the customer with good prices, better products and better service reliability. In the long run the consumers here have an option which keeps the price wars going non-stop. Personally I think the word monopoly and cable tv don't co-exist where I live, but things may be different where you are. I don't consider anything you stated wrong, I might not agree with all of it, but I respect where you're coming from. Although I might not have the same experiences with life as it sounds like you have, but then again I'm just a little worker ant trying to keep my head above water like everybody else I know in this world. |

I am sure you are unable to hack a cable box and as you so quaintly put it "reprogram it" as well. The cable company utilizes two way communication to enable the features of your STB, the first time your pirate STB cannot respond, POOF, no more pirated cable. You may well be right that the regulations are unfair so if you want to pull your Ghandi or Martin Luther King act in protest be my guest. cable girl Unregistered guest | to change the time on your box push menu on your remote, then go to main menu, then set up, then cable box, then make sure time display is on. if you call customer service they have the programming codes for your tv. if not there is a search code i just can't remember it right now. if you want to use an xbox or something you have to program it as an aux option. after using an aux option, turn the dvd player or xbox or whatever off and hit the cable button to get back to cable. if you have a blue screen it means something else is on, vcr or something. turn it off and push the cable button on your remote. if you have a box that was not issued to you at time of service install then a) that is the property of comcast or whoever your provider is and b) if it is comcast it won't work long because its not associated with your account d) call us and try to get us to add it and this is what will happen, it will come up that it is associated with another account, we will tell you it is not yours it is the property of comcast, it will never be activated. no you can't do something to get free channels. be serious. if the codes for the channels are not on your account the box won't get those channels. damn everybody wants something for nothing. everybody complains about how much they hate our service but everyone is looking for a way to steal it. keep stealing cable. we have audit teams that go out and cut your lines every day. then you call us crying about it like you haven't been stealing. actually, any cable company that wants to could and would win a case prosecuting someone for using an unauthorized box. i think we should do it more often to you arrogant jerks. always trying to get over. |
blah blah Unregistered guest | SIMPLE QUESTION...It's probably posted somewhere but there's too much to read and no time. I have cable internet and antenna cable (just local channels). My cable is directly connected to my TV, no box. Can I simply buy an analog cable box and get the basic cable (not digital). I don't care for digital cable. Also can I cancel my antenna cable service and keep my internet service and use the box for analog cable? Can the cable co bust me...? |
Peas Unregistered guest | lil hacker wrote: "I have comcast cable but want to get more chanells like cinemax and xxx ones free can i do something to the box get free chanells " Yes if you strip naked and look in a mirror you will get all the XXX you want, likely more than you can stand. Perhaps you will get a cell adjoining RBC and can keep each other company late into the night. PS: Is your name Bubba? RBC is looking for a play mate. Peas |
cable girl Unregistered guest | if you have the limited service, 2-15, then there is a trap on your line so no matter what you buy to steal cable it won't work. again, there are rate codes that have to go on your account to dictate any channels above basic cable, and if your service is limited, then you can't even get full basic due to the traps on the lines. if you climb a pole and try to untrap your own line not only can comcast fine you so can the city, since it's their pole, and just to let the theives in on something, people call me every day to tell me about how their neighbor is climbing a pole and they just want to let us know. people that pay for their cable are pretty defensive about things when they see someone else attempting to steal it. yes, the cable company can and will bust you. people start calling in with service problems, techs go out, and oh, mr. loud and mean customer is getting no video on demand because his neighbor is stealing cable by splicing into his service. i already mentioned the audit teams. their job, all they do all day, is drive around looking for illegal cable connections, then they cut your line. |

YOu must not read very well either...I never said anything about XXX, etc. just basic cable. Pea-Boy...if you already know everything about cable, why do you waste your time here? It's ok to go play with your little peas tonight if you haven't already! |

PEAS OUT MAN TAKE CARE OF THOSE PEAS THEY COULD BE WORHT MILLIONS CALL GENUIES WORLD RECORDS. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. |
cable girl Unregistered guest | blah blah, you don't have to have video service to get internet service, but the price of internet service goes up 10.00 (in some markets 15.00) if you are an internet only customer. may as well keep the limited service. y'all have a nice night. oh yeah, one more thing, it doesn't matter what you try to 'unlock' on the box, the box doesn't determine which channels you get. the rate codes on your account determine that. it's 2005. the signals are not scrambled. they are DIGITAL. the box does not control our database, our database controls your box. for example when you are 30 days past due your box becomes inhibited, it won't allow any channels. because it has been shut down from our database. the box is only a receiver of digitally encrypted information. can't steal cable any more unless its analog only. and for those people that are upset that all the good channels are on digital packages and analog packages suck, you can thank your friendly cable pirates for that. i work for the cable company and i still have to pay my bill, so you have to pay yours too as far as i am concerned. |
blah blah Unregistered guest | so Cable Girl...lets just cut to the chase...I don't think MR. Little PEA-nuts has a clue...since my cable co is delivering ANALOG cable to me as of right now, I can easily purchase an ANALOG cable box to receive BASIC (not digital)cable, correct? ....*Theoretically*...I can also cancel my antenna cable, keep my internet service, purchase an analog cable box and enjoy basic cable TV....right?? Cable Gurrrll...be honest with me now... maybe we should get together and have a wild cable party with soda and everything.......what do you think???? |
cable girl Unregistered guest | blah blah: who provides your cable? if it's comcast then you don't need a box to get analog cable. it just goes straight from the wall plate to your tv. unless you have a tv that is not cable ready or has the old dial chnl changer that only goes to 13. call and see what the promos are in your area for new customers. also - ask how their prorates work. prorate shock is the biggest cause of people cussing me out every day. works like this: change of service or new install on the 20th, your billing cycle actually starts on the 30th, we bill a month in advance... so: 24.65 partial mo dig w/hbo @ 2.46/day x 10 days 15.30 partial mo net & modem @ 1.53/day x 10 days + 29.95 internet mo in advance @ promo rate + 29.95 digital mo in advance @ promo rate + 3.00 modem rental = 102.85 + taxes and fees quite a shock if you are only expecting: 29.95 internet @ promo rate + 29.95 digital w/hbo @ promo rate + 3.00 modem rental = 62.90 + taxes and fees (this is how your next bill would look if no more changes made to the account.) p.s. if you are a new customer or A PREVIOUS CUSTOMER WHO HAS CANCELLED SERVICE, TURNED IN THE EQUIPMENT, BUT HAVE NOW DECIDED TO COME BACK... ** you are now eligible for promos ** BUT if you only get internet and no video service, you are NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE INTERNET PROMO. you have to at least get the 9.95 limited chnls (2-15) to get internet promo. i know that was a book but i hope it helped and answered some questions. a wild cable party? with soda and all? hmmmmmm... |
cable girl Unregistered guest | oh, and the quick answer is this: most markets now have a way to completely trap your line so that if you cancel your limited service and only keep your internet, the ONLY live outlet is your internet outlet. so no, you probably couldn't do that. most cable companies have a way to stop this sort of cable theft. |
blah blah Unregistered guest | Cable GUrrrll, my soda is fizzing and my popcorn is popping!! would you like some??? |
cable girl Unregistered guest | fizzy soda, popcorn, cable, what more could a girl ask for? |
Anonymous | "Peas" What got stuck up your ___ If sombody offred a way to get free cable I will gladly accept rather than paying X amount each month for less servise. Not to mention my prices continue to climb due to "improved tech". for you to say you would not is like saying you neaver lie to get the result you want |
Peas Unregistered guest | Dear Anon, I simply dislike thieves, big thieves, little thieves, it does not matter. Anyone willing to steal no matter how small is a lowlife scumbag. People start small then steal more and more all the time finding some way to justify their theft. The more people who steal cable the higher the cost for the rest of the honest people. If lazy thieves did not steal cars my auto insurance would be lower, if arsonists did not set fires for money my homeowners insurance would decrease. The less people able to steal cable the better for the rest of us. Peas |
cable girl Unregistered guest | very true peas, and i guess no one ever stopped to think that the reason cable customer service reps and techs are not so friendly when you call yelling is because all we listen to all day long is people trying to find some way to get out of paying their bill. stealing cable is dishonest and it's not fair to the people that have to pay for their service. price increases are to cover things like internet speed improvements people request, additions to chnl line ups also something people request, perks like video on demand, and yes, the large amounts of money the companies lose for things like theft of cable and non returned dct's & modems. |
Question from SF Unregistered guest | I'm using Comcast. I want high speed Internet and standard cable only. Does digital give me anything in terms of picture clarity, surround sound, etc. or is just choice flexibility, add'l channels? Do I need the DCT2224 motorola box that I am currently renting or can I return that? Also, just out of curiousity, can I buy a similar box on ebay and just return the ebay box (does comcast care?), allowing me to set up another TV in my bedroom. Thx. |
