A friend gave us this Mitsubishi Projection TV. It is an older one and we are having trouble with the color tints. We have manually adjusted everything on the tv, but there is still to much red. Everyone on the screen has a really bad sunburn. Does anyone now how to fix the problem and what is the problem?
The set has three CRT's, one for each primary color. (red, green, blue) One or more of them has failed and it's obviously not the red one. It's a service call with the repair being in the $400-$600 range if parts are available. Most techs charge $60-$75 for an estimate.
Keep in mind you can BUY a brand new HD-ready set for not much more than it would cost to fix a 1990 set.
I have to mention that the picture of a 2005 model, the resolution, etc is light years ahead of a 1990 model.
Unless you can find some used parts for CHEAP, and can fix it yourself it's not worth fixing.
You also have to look at it this way. Say you fix it... For $400-500-600-700... and in six months it dies again requring another service call...another couple of hundred.
