By June or July I hope to purchase a HD RPTV. In going over the reviews and excellent message board comments here at ecoustics.com, I've narrowed my search to either the Hitachi 65S500 or the 60V500.
However, I'm still hopelessly confused between a CRT and LCD RPTV. From what I've read, one of the CRT RPTV's main problems is size. For me, this is a non-issue as I have a large living room, and I'll be sittting almost 16 feet from the screen. I would be concerned about burn in issues, since my tv seems to be on an awful lot.
I've read all about the LCD RPTV concerns with black levels. It seems in reading the professional reviews that the CRT RPTV gets higher ratings than the LCD RPTV models. However, when I go to a CC showroom I'm really wowed by the picture of the LCD RPTVs. Plus, I really like the brightness of the LCD RPTV screen, which is a plus since my room has a large window.
So, is the extra cost worthwhile for the LCD RPTV in terms of picture quality? Thanks in advance for your input to a newbie!

If you are well read on the excellent messages here at ecoustics then you know that if you are going to wait till June or July then why don't you wait till Sept when all of the new models will be coming out.... I believe Sony's new models will have the HD over the air tunners built in.... The New DLP chips should be out... And Maybe just maybe the new Intel LCOS chip might be out....
Lets see.... If your TV is on a lot, then CRT is not the way to go, you will have that thing burned out in threee years.... Lets see you are porbably going to spend 1500 or so... Thats 500 a year for a burned out CRT piece of junk that you will have in three years...
if you can afford it, pay more for an LCD. i passed on a mits 73" cause the PQ was better on the LCD. With a Panny LCD RP you get 720 native display, no burn-in, no convergence to worry about and it can connect to most PC's. I've had to move my tv about 20 times (connections) it only weighs a 100 lbs, the mits was 500 lbs and bulky. Dave i got mine at Paul's in La Habra. I figure if paul's carries it, its got to be quality. i still have my mits that i bought from them in 92.
