All, I'm confused about something and hope that one of you might help. I'm getting ready to cut a deal on a new HD TIVO unit from DTV and I'm hearing some buzz about a possible need for a separate antenna to receive local channel HD broadcasts.
I presently have local channels in SD through my current DTV deal. I guess I don't understand why there might be a need for a separate antenna?
Direct TV supplies all local channels in SD and HD here in NY city. If your TV has an internal ATSC tuner (hd tuner) you can pick up local digital HD stations over the air which you may use during direct tv outages.
To receive HD you need a larger dish that picks up different frequency. This is required to pick up any HD channel. I believe this is what they are referring to.
