FYI- Why is it that you all have 53 suggestions for Jim Smith with his burn in issues, but have no suggestions for me??

Hi, I had a question and hoped someone here could please help me. I have had a plasma tv for 4 months and it has burn in or uneven ageing from the black bars on the sides of 4:3 display. Now when we watch in wide screen it is lighter on the sides where the black bars were and now darker in the middle. My plasma tv does not have any white wash or other burn in prevention features. Is there anyway I can fix this? I heard about leaving a solid white image on the screen for a long time could help, is this true? I tried the snow effect for a little bit, like a minute but it's still the same, maybe I should leave it longer, is that safe? Thanks for your help. - newbieplasmatv owner

If its burn in and not image retention it wont go away. I would suggest you turn down the brightness and contrast first off and avoid watching movies or shows with black bars. You should have a zoom control or stretch on your plasma. I dont have burn in but as you noticed I asked many questions about it before I purchased my plasma. I dont watch any 4:3 material as my plasma senses black bars and fills the screen fully.I have heard some suggest that if you leave your tv on with a white screen(like you would if no signal was present) that after 24 hours or so the effect your seeing may be lessened. Other than that there are no other suggestions. What brand plasma do you own?

I own a Philips 42inch with the ambylight and pixel plus feature. It is only 4 months old. I was not told anything about being careful watching 4:3 and yes I do have an automatic feature but only if you chose on the menu the screen to go automatic. If I would have known this in the first place I would have left it on Zoom full screen or automatic. I think that the manual should really be more specific in the burn in issue because yes it is an issue for plasmas. And yes I am now paranoid about everything I watch now. I tryed the white screen for a hour or so but I dont want to make the screen worse so therefore I am reluctant to leave it on any longer. Its to late its already burnt in so It doesn't matter anymore if I watch full screen or not. Philips won't give me a new set.

Don't use the split screen. We have a 42pf9976 and a vertical line burned in where the yellow line divides the screen. Philips had to replace the plasma display panel three times and then they bought it back from us.

Still waiting for them to pick it up, it has been about two months now (maybe they forgot) :-)

RS-

How did you get Philips to replace the display panel? We were told to go to repair shop but they won't cover burn in?

Thanks

Kathy,

We called Philips, they asked us some questions and said they were sending the new display panel. They were on back order each time and it took about three weeks to receive it. They send it air then by freight. The tech comes out the next day or as soon as we can accommodate both of us. The job takes about four hours, then the freight company calls within a couple of days to pick up the old panel. The tech told me that sometimes a whole set of pixels from top to bottom can go out a they do the same thing, with the replacement. This will only work if you bought it from an authorized Philips dealer. Hope this will help you.
