VHS movies to DVD

This subject is touched on many times in this forum. However, I have specific questions.
I have hundreds of movies that I have taped from TV over the years. My wife is killing me about the space that the tapes are taking up. To save my marriage, I want to copy them to DVD. I thought that I would buy a DVD recorder with a VHS player and do the dubbing with that.
Question #1 - will this work?
Question #2 - if it does work, how many hours can
I get on one disc?
Thanks for any help.

Buy a seperate DVD recorder, combos are poor quality. I don't ever go over SP/2 hours when recording. Recorders go 6-8 hours, but discs are too cheap for the quality loss over 2 hours.

I agree with David. However, if you run into a problem where you're just a few minutes over two hours and want to keep everything on a single disc, try the 'best fit' option, if your recorder supports it. The slight reduction in quality is barely noticable, if at all.
