I'll admit that I'm fairly new at this, and all this technical jargon confuses me. So pardon my ignorance.
But all I want to know is...are there any DVD players on the market now that upconvert through component video cables? And if not, are there ever going to be any?
Technology is great. I bought this 65 inch HDTV for $3500 two years ago, and already it seems it's out of date, in that I apparently can't utilize the latest DVD technology because it does not have a HDMI or DVI input. Ahh, money well spent! These things depreciate faster than automobiles...
The advantage of HDMI/DVI in a DVD player is that it can take the DVD data which is in digital form, up-convert it, and send it to the TV in digital form through the digital HDMI/DVI cable.
A component cable, while the best of all analog cables is still analog, so the digital data has to be converted to analog, sent to your TV, then when your TV receives it, it is converted back to digital, and then your TV will up-converted it for the display resolution that it needs.
A digital cable eliminates the D to A, then A to D conversion. If your DVD player and TV is good, and you use a good component video cable, and digital audio cable, what you will be missing in video will be almost nill. The bigger deal is... HDMI also adds copy-protection so you can't record off of it.
