I've been in the market for a new DVD player for a month or so. I'm currently running a Panasonic DVD-A320 with my Mits 62725. Yes, I know the DVD player is an antique, but I'm still pretty happy with the picture and anyone who sees it is impressed with the clarity as well.
But I'm thinking I'd like to get something that does progressive and upconversion. While I'm at it, I'd lke something that plays more formats reliably (most notably DVD+R/RW) and I might as well cover my bases with DVD-Audio and SACD.
It seems the Denon 1920 will do all of the above at a reasonable price point. I see a lot of talk about the 2910, which is a nice player, but at $700 it is twice the price of the 1920 and I'd be paying for features I don't need (e.g. DTS & Dolby Digital decoding, which my Yamaha RX-V1500 does quite nicely).
I'm wondering if anyone has any personal experience with the 1920 of things to watch out for. Obviously at half the price it doesn't do some things as well as the 2910, but again some of those things are features I really don't need.
I have the 1920 and it has been the best dvd player i have had since i got rid of my old panasonic and my newer onkyo. I'm going to run DVI when i get my HDTV but right now just using component video upconversion the picture is great. I have the same receiver execpt its the htr5790, so that receiver decodes perfectly. My friends father has the 2910, its nice but not nice enough to jump into that price range
