When I watch widescreen DVD's I am still seeing the letterbox bars at the top and bottom of the screen. Is that supposed to be like that? I have seen some flat screen plasmas that were on display playing a widescreen dvd that fills up the entire screen. I am just wondering if there is another option in my menu that I need to select. I have a 42 inch AKAI EDTV plasma.... |
Checker Unregistered guest | On dvd movies, the bars are normal. Your 16x9 screen is roughly 1.77:1 which is what a hi def tv show is broadcast in. Movies are different. Many dvd's are 1.85:1 with small black bars and 2.35:1 with bigger bars. This preserves the aspect ratio of the movie. There are zoom options that can make the movie fill the screen but you lose part of the picture. |
