I've heard that it is a waste of money to buy and HDMI DVD player for a CRT TV because it does not help (and even might hurt) picture quality. Is this true? If so, what should I buy instead. Should I just buy a basic progressive scan DVD player and hook it into the component inputs? |

Upconversion is not a miracle fix and the actual improvement may be anywhere from barely noticeable to modest. But you will not get HD from current DVDs. I know of no situations where the picture would worsen. But like many things in av, strange things do happen, from time to time.
