Who makes the best 32" LCD for handling standard def. Seems there is a lot of disappointment w/ std. def. on new LCDs, but since most programming is still std. def. this is important to me.
My 32PF5520D impressed me in SD, so that's why I bought it. I am not a fan of LCD, but I needed one cause my apartment is not big enough for a full size CRT. The quality impressed me because I was not expecting the same as CRT. The reason to go for Philips is that my father used to be one of their authorised repairerers and it is one of the few makes that supply the electrical diagrams to their customers.

JVC claims its new sets are 770P up from 720P. You also have to worry about how sets stretch 4:3 to 16:9. The JVC set has a variable stretch called panorama that works well.

Why would someone spend thousands on a TV that provides a worse results than a $400 Sylvania? Makes no sense. My baseline is my parents' ten-year old RCA regular TV which I had always considered to have a very nice picture. (My own TV was older and fading fast). I bought the 32" Westinghouse LCD HDTV and all channels at least as good as or better than the baseline, and the HD is much better than what you see in stores that are supposed to be selling you on HDTV.
