Bronze Member Username: PartyatmariosPost Number: 12 Registered: Jun-05 | Hello JMR, the date grows closer for the great sale at costco. I am trying to find out as much on the vizio HDM 50 as possible. I have looked at the on-line instruction manual but it does not tell you everything. For example what kind of burn in protection does it have? Is there an orbitor?? Does it work with or without a fan? What are the plus and negatives to this unit. I am told you are the one who would know about the Vizio. Look forward in your response. I will much gladly accept as much info. as you can provide. Look forward to your response. |
JMR Unregistered guest | Hi Mario. For the record i do not work for V, Inc. I work for a company that does PR work and V is one of our clients. Not sure about the screen saver stuff. the unit does have fans. Call Tech. and they can help you. If not I will E-mail them for you. |

I would greatly appreciate all the questions your expertise can ask to the tech. Thanks |
JMR Unregistered guest | I will send out an email first thing Monday morning. JMR |

JMR Unregistered guest | Sorry for the delay. I was sick yesterday. I did get e-mail from one of the lower level techs and i have bad news for you. NO SCREEN SAVERS AT ALL. The head tech, and the guy who designed the set is away this week and I e-mailed him to double check for you. This is a VERY bad. It seems some of the new consumer sets are NOT using screen savers. We have this and now the new Panasonics, I don't get this at all. Bottem line I PERSONALY would NOT buy a set without screen savers. **** THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION AND I DO NOT POST FOR ANYONE OR ANY COMPANY OTHER THEN MYSELF**** |
Bronze Member Username: PartyatmariosPost Number: 15 Registered: Jun-05 | JMR, Thanks for checking with them. Without a screen saver, I guess this means the Vizio P50 HDM is highly suseptable to burn in. I am looking forward to hearing what the guy who designed it has to say next week. Oh by the way I hope you are feeling better. This is indeed bad news. I did read it had some thing called screen wash or something like that for ghosting. Does this mean anything positive in the same direction? What set 50 " can you recomend in the vicinity of $2500 to $3000, even a 46" inch will do. I once saw proview $1999 for a 46 inch any remarks on this one or something similar for the price? |
Bronze Member Username: PartyatmariosPost Number: 16 Registered: Jun-05 | JMR, Originally I was looking at the SAMSUNG 5052, before the Vizio P50HDM. I just found the Samsung HP-R5052 50\" Plasma TV at Click4TVs.com for the price of $3695.95 + $150 ground delivery. Are you familiar with this company who is selling? The price has recently dropped. Need as much feedback on this seller and model as possible. Even though the price exceeds what the budget is. Thanks |
Unregistered guest | My DVD player and my DISH receiver both have screen savers. Wouldn't those screen savers accomplish the same thing as a built-in screen saver on the TV itself? |
MikeP Unregistered guest | Check out the last few posts on page 14 here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=543988&page=14 Starting with post 403. People don't seem too concerned about the burn-in, the unit appears to have a way to fix it after the fact if it does happen. |
New member Username: Djb64Post Number: 1 Registered: Aug-05 | Everybody seems to be obsessing about the Vizio...fan noise, general quality (altho everyone says PQ is great). I checked it out at Costco, worried about it for days, then found a 50" Panny at Video Only (Seattle area) for 3599 with 12 months of 0% financing!!! Done deal. First-tier supplier for an almost third tier price! I even got another 150 off because they were out of stock (have to wait about five days). |
Unregistered guest | JMR, I'm interesting to buy Vizio P50HDM at Costco but I don't know any thing about plasma TV in general. I have read some of comments but don't understand some of the terms people used. Please explain following words mean in respect of plasma tv quality: orbitor, burn in and screen saver. Thanks |
roadtrip67 Unregistered guest | so, i just found this site today, is vizio good with image trails, pixel blowing out(cant remember name for it), and i asume will be a over all great unit for price, i want to get one but afraid on no name brand,,,thanks |
Bronze Member Username: PartyatmariosPost Number: 31 Registered: Jun-05 | roadtrip67 I just got the vizio yesterday and I love it. The Vizio is using the latest LG panel, so even though it is Vizio it has some quality parts in it. I highly suggest that if you do decide to pick one up to make sure you get one with a July manufacture date. Many people have complained that the fans are loud. I have been following the avs forum and there is a thirty nine page discussion on the vizio. I went with some advice on the July models and my unit is as quiet as a mouse. It is very heavy though and the bezel is delicate so you have to have great care in installing on a wall if you choose. The exact amount after coupon and tax in NY is $2850.64 Good luck sale ends the 28th of August. There is a coupon being offered on ebay if you cannot find one but you have to hurry. |
Busted Unregistered guest | Hey JMR, If your company does PR work for V, Inc. then either you're stupid or they are for hiring you. |
New member Username: Jim_noydManhattan Beach, CA USA Post Number: 3 Registered: Jun-04 | JMR does not work for V, Inc.'s PR company. We represent them and have no one posting for V, Inc. with the exception of myself. Here is an announcement from the manufacturer on fan noise, "We thank your in advance for providing VIZIO with customer feedback regarding the P50 HDM Plasma display. We have received some initial feedback from customers regarding the level of sound emitted from the back of the display. The sound is caused by the air transfer between the fan and back of the chassis. We have identified a design solution to minimize the sound level of this air transfer. VIZIO P50HDM customers who would like this issue addressed, please send an email to Techsupp@vinc.com with the following information: First and Last Name: Street Address: City, State, Zip Code: VIZIO P50HDM Serial Number: Telephone Number: Email address to respond to: We will contact you via telephone the week of September 6, 2005 to arrange on site service. Actual appointments will begin the week of September 12, 2005. Customers that have previously supplied this information, please disregard this notice. Again, we appreciate your business and we look forward to supporting you. VIZIO Customer Support" On the issue on burn-in the VIZIO P50 HDM has a screen-clean feature that eliminates picture retention and can reduce the possibility of burn-in. |
