I recently purchased a LCD rear projection TV. Is a HD receiver required for HD quality pictures? If so, cable companies like Comcast are offering them for $5/month whereas places like Circuit City are offering them for $300/each. Do I have to buy both the receivers from Comcast and Circuit City or can I get one and not the other? I tried asking Comcast and Circuit City, but they are telling me different things. Comcast says I have to theirs no matter what whereas Circuit City says I don't have to get Comcast's. Thanks!

If Comcast is like my cable provider Cablevision, you only need the box Comcast provides. The TV is HDTV ready, so when you get the new box you will get any HDTV channels they carry. That number is currently a small subset of channels. I can get CBS, NBC, HBO, SRZ and a few others in HDTV. The picture is great. Get the new box, it's well worth it.

I believe your confusion is based on several things. 1: your tv is HD ready but does not come with a HD tunner. The tv CAN display a HD signal that is received from a CABLE BOX OR Over the AIR decoder or a progressive scan DVD. 2: Circuit City sells an Over the air decoded for about 300. That means you have an antennae on the roof that feeds into the box and you see OTA HDTV... 3: Your cable box if digital, has channels that are HD... Your tv can receive these channels and display them as HD... Not all cable channels are HD AND you may have to pay the cable company more to receive the specific HD channels...
4: You do NOT need the OTA circuit city box if you have cable. The cable box will pass the correct signal to the tv...
I hope this helps...

I just set up the kf42we610 using a HD digital cable box with component video connection. Unfortunately, the TV automatically defaults to the "full" mode for all broadcasts. Accordingly, anything not in HD looks stretched and distorted. Is there anyway to re-size images when the signal is through the component video in? Does using the DVI Firewire solve the problem?
