Apologies if this question may be answered elsewhere - I have done a search and cannot find anything that might answer my questions.
I have just moved into a house in North Toronto and when we moved, the previous occupant said he would leave the satellite 'system' in place.
When we moved in we discovered that he had left TWO dishes attached to the roof but no receiver and as my only experience with satellite TV is in the UK, I am at a loss as to what I have or what to do with it.
It would appear that we have TWO dishes on our roof. Both have the DISH NETWORK logo on them and are pointed at different locations. Cables lead down from them to a small box on the wall. This box takes the two inputs and outputs them via a single cable to the inside of the house. The splitter/combiner (?) on the wall appears to be very old and any make or model number on it has been removed or faded away.
so my questions are
1. how do i know what i have ? 2. where would i obtain a cheap receiver for this ? 3. Is it legal ? (read a lot about Dish Network and CRTC)
Advice would be appreciated, spam from resellers would not.
Contact Dish Network. They should be able to tell you what type of service is available and whether it was previously provided to that residence.

Dishnetwork in Canada?...U have a dish and some sort ogf box/splitter/switch...that simple!...what kind?...how do we know?...can't get a receiver until U know what kind of switch on wall..its probably a sw21 swith for 2 LNB's and 1 Echostar./Dishnetwork receiver that someone WAS hacking...if Dishnetwork,No its NOT legal!...U can't do anything unless subsribe to Bev or Starchoice..hacking Dishnet days are numbered and gone by Sept..
