I know it says it is Dolby Digital Virtual Surround which means it creates a 5.1 feeling from flat panel TV's. I'm hardly and expert and was wondering if someon could help me with this. Are you pleased with the video and sound from this player? Thanks. |
PFC5 Unregistered guest | I tried the Pioneer DV-578A-S player and I returned it. I was looking for a Universal SACD/DVD-A player but the sound output on the 578 was lower than the Samsung HD841 I already had. I noticed the Samsung sounded about 20% louder than the 578 immediately. It also missed some sounds that the Samsung HD841 picked up on and the 841 just had much more depth than the 578. I understand the 588 is basically the same player with a new face plate on it. I also noticed that the 578 had a lot of jaggies on curved lines. This is easy to see if you go to the aspect ratio screens inside the THX Optimizer that is included on many discs that have THX sound. The circle in those scenes had jaggies on the top 25% of the circle and the bottom did too! Too bad, I really wanted to like and keep this player but I returned it because of the video performance and the sound with the HiRes Music discs. I wish the Samsung HD841 had as good a picture as my old JVC PS player does. Then I would have been all set. The search continues..... |

As long as it's getting a 5.1 DD audio bitstream to work with, the receiver will "build" the sixth (rear center) channel. If your receiver supports DD EX, the DV-588A-S will feed it the digital audio stream it needs. A short DD EX explanation can be found here: http://www.dolby.com/consumer/technology/dolby_ex.html |
