I've had this player for about 4 months and I've loved it but lately I've been having problems. At around 68 minutes on every DVD, even brand new ones, it starts to skip as though the disc was scratched. Also, and I haven't been able to determine if this is a problem with the player or the reciever, Dobly Digital EX soundtracks will only play in standard DD, it's as though the reciever is not recognizing it as an EX signal. I've double checked and made sure that "auto" is selected on my reciever for DD EX, and I've checked all the settings on the DVD player as well. Could these problems be related? Any solutions?
thanks much

If it is always doing it at about 60 minutes into the movie, it is probably the layer change where you are seeing the "skip". What it really is is the laser has to adjust to see the second layer on the disk.

Some players are better at this than others. I briefly had this player but returned it. I didn't notice the layer transition when I tried it though. Perhaps it is having problems after being used.

They are making these DVD players cheaper and cheaper, and they seem to be only providing a 90 day warranty on the labor portion. The labor to fix it IS the most expensive part of any repair on these things.

I am surfing these boards trying to find a DVD player that actually works, but they all seem to have "issues", even the $3,500.00 DVD players.

If DVD players were this bad 5 years ago, they would not have "caught on" like they did. Now that everone is using them, they are making them to only last 1 or 2 years.

Try cleaning the laser with a q-tip wet with alcohol. Also clean the spindle the disc sits on with the same thing. Layer changes are at different places in each movie, I doubt that's it.
