Just got S.Atlanta 8610 for analog cable and it doesn't work why ???

i have limited basic services, but i receve all the chanells till 68, with out the box. now i got the box Scientific atlanta 8610 and when i plug it in i only get 13 chennels .
why is that do i need to restet the box ir get a filter ?
