DVD player says, no disk

Please help. I have a Sony DVD player which used to work perfectly. Then one day decided to say, no disk. I've tried every disk we have and none will work. Could it be that it needs a cleaning? Or is it junk now?

You could try lightly cleaning the laser with a q-tip wet with alcohol. Look and see if the disc spins, if not give a little spin by hand and see if it starts spinning. The Mabuchi spindle motors Sony uses eat right through the brushes till there is nothing left but nubs. If you know how to work on stuff, you can take the brush assembly off the motor and replace it with a CD player motor brush assembly. I haven't been able to find the DVD spindle motors anywhere.
