So I have the rare opportunity to buy a plasma TV for around $5000. But I am baffled by which one to choose. I think HDTV Plasma is the way to go but am open to suggestions.

Here is what I am currently considering - I need something with speakers attached and a table top stand. no current need for dvi

Hitachi 42HDT55 - 1000:1 / 1024 x 1024 cmes with speakers and stand for about $5200 - has dvi built in

Panasonic TH-42PHD6UY 3000:1 contrast and 1024 x 768 native pixels can add dvi on a board

Fujitsu - or same as Hitachi just more$$$? or is it better?

Thanks a lot for you help !!!

The Hitachi has low contrast ratio. I understand you want the speakers and your limit is $5k. Well, how about getting a 42" EDTV set (PWD6UY)for around $2.5k and with the remaining $$ get yourself a nice HT setup :-)

PWD6UY PQ will blow Hitachi's in DVD and SDTV and be competitive in HDTV.

david i am in the same boat man.

here is my help

Hitachi 42HDT55 is great you have to get it calibrated and it will look better than anything you have seen.

Don't get fujitsu there 42inch is a different plasma screen than there 50 inch. There 50 inch is best hands down

i don't think you can go wrong with hitachi's

compares hitachi to loewe which loewe is top dog but hitachi can hang! Hitachi has a super crisp picture.

Yes, the hitachi's a great TV. Another one I liked was the Sony 42XS910, which can be bought online for about 4K-4900...or 5999 at BB.

I'm thinking about purchasing a sony 50xbr950 from AVS-STORE.com

I've heard some horror stories-- any theories about going forward with a 5k wire transfer of cash? Please help me with an email ryanwolf@rgv.rr.com

Loewe is amazing. Not what I would call a
flat panel tv" but definitely a bargain. Marantz makes some of the best plasmas around. 42" is a hair more than 5k. CHeck either out. Whatever you do do not put anything that says Samsung in your house :-) (inside joke)

Mitsubishi are solid. Same case as Marantz only silver. NEC glass and pretty good prices. Fujitsu 55" is looking great! $1500 rebate until end of Sept. :-)

Has anyone here reviewed the new Philips 50" 50PF9956? How does Philips traditionally compare with Pioneer/Panasonic? I like the Pioneer/Panasonic plasmas but have an opportunity to get a Philips for a good price.

Thanks!

I have seen SVA 42" Widescreen Plasma TV with TV Tuner #HD4208IIIPDP available under $2000 at a couple places recently . I understand the differences between EDTV and HDTV and why EDTV is typically less. However this EDTV price seems to be much better than other more mainstream brands. Any reason I shouldn't buy this one? Thanks

I have an opportunity to get a great price on a 42" PG Plasma display RU42PZ61, ($3200). Can this display with a 1024x768 res, 5000:1 contrast and 1000cd/m2 be as good as the others described above? It looked pretty good in the store.

1. 1024 x 768 is not full hi definition - its "enhanced"

2. Stores setups espeically in big box stores are junk - they mean nothing -often they are running the equiv of dvd's which are not full hi def - making side by side comparisons irrelevant

3. plasma's have a serious fade issue - and its NOT FIXABLE, they lose brightness over time

4. unless you are looking for living room work of art - personally I believe new generation front lcd projectors - e.g table mounted - selling in low 2000 range - such as the Panasonic PT-AE7000 LCD will blow the doors off any plasma even the the new 10 dollar ones

1024 x 768 is full hi definition - not "enhanced", check out the HD spec.

I bought a Samsung HP-P4261 last month for $3200. The picture is perfect in hdtv, 720p from DVD. The picture can be fine tuned, but its not necessary, the defaults closely matched THX video calibration. I highly this model, you can't get a better plasma for the price IMOHO

Help - What's the best for the least? I have a budget of $2,500 for a new tv. I like to be in the 42" to 46" range and I like to get a plasma. LCD rear projection is nice, but still too bulky for my space. I saw a Vizio 42" HDTV Plasma at Costco. Please advise.

Thanks.
