Okay this may seem like a really lame question...just joined this message board so I hope I'm doing this properly....ok...here goes...
We have a dvd player...a Toshiba SD-3860...has worked great since we bought it last summer...
Today we went and bought 4 new DVD's...all from Walmart..so not burned or anything like that...
So we bring them home of course ready to play them and no go....we put them in the dvd player...it starts reading...and reading....and reading....and then nothing....and the display goes to "stop"....on its own....we've tried all 4 of the dvd's and no luck....we put old movies we have owned for a while into the player...they work just fine....now...next quandry in all this....hubby has a new laptop....with a dvd player....an HP ZV5210CA....works awesome...and so do the dvd's...in his player...so.....this is so odd I had to post and ask what is up with these discs....or our player?...the discs are obviously good....they play in the laptop...the dvd player...obviously plays our old dvd's....some only 2 weeks old by the way....so now that I've rambled...if someone could maybe help me with any answer at all...(its probably something so simple we have overlooked)...it would be greatly appreciated....thank you!

Are they cheapie DVDs, or real DVDs from movie studios? You could try lightly cleaning the laser with a q-tip wet with alcohol. If that doesn't work, I'd take the DVDs to an electronics store or Sears or someplace like that and see if they play in a few of their players. Some players are more picky than others on what they will play.

Cleaning the eye was the next step...
We were just befuddled that it would work with old dvd's but not the new....still don't know why it wouldn't...BUT...cleaning the eye worked......thank you so much!
