I am using a mitsu 65" widescreen tv ( ws-65315 ), and a sony DVP-NS575P as a dvd player ..
When it comes to these sort of things I am not very smart so bare with me , only doing this one post to find the answer and leave .
I have no problems with widescreen and really dont feel like explaining to my father why its better, in fact he cant even watch a movie if he see's the damn "black bars" as he calls them.
Recently while trying to watch a widescreen dvd ( current , its oceans 12 ) .. The "damn black bars" are uhm way to large .. not like normal 4:3 aspect ratio tv "bars" but .. really big , i would say it counts for 2/3's of the picture .
my questions are this , I tried the tv settings and none of them fixed the problem .. this might sound really retarded to some of you but , what am i doing wrong? shouldnt most of the bars i see be ALMOST eliminated? is it because i am not using the dvd component cables and just using svideo? .. Or is this something solved with the dvd players settings? .
i tried searching but just found large pages of "why to buy a hdtv" nothing really explaining my problem .. the aspect ratio on this movie and the others he watches is 2.40 to 1.
2:40/1 won't fill any screen, 1:85/1 should fill the screen unless you have the settings wrong. If you want the screen full on 2:35-2:40/1 movies, use the zoom on the TV or the DVD player.
Thanks, But i know there are going to be "bars" in anything 1.77+ , my problem is the bars are way to large . and checked all the tv settings. I want to make sure this has nothing todo with the fact im using svideo instead of the color component set.
If you have component inputs use them. They won't change the aspect ratio, but they will give better quality. If the player is set on 16:9 then it's right.
