I have a KF60WE610 since late December and so far no problems. But based on what I read on this message board I feel like I'm sitting on a ticking time bomb, in that the TV could break down any day now. Does anyone know what percentage of these TV's are bad, or is every one of them going to die in short order.

I've had my KF50WE610 since mid November with no problems. I figure if it's one of the defectives it should die within the first year and will be covered by sony's 1 year parts and labor warranty. I know I may be without the set while it's being fixed but it sounds like the repairs have been successful.

John, I don't know about you, but I always associated the SONY name with high quality, and that's one of the reasons I chose this set over the RCA DLP. I'm just surprised and disappointed that SONY would rush these sets out the door without proper testing, most likely so they could meet the Christmas buying rush. I guess you're right though... the sets that are going to die will probably do so within the warantee period. As long as they really know how to fix it we should be alright.

When I first got my set I was curious about the cost of a replacement bulb so I called 1-800-222-SONY. They quoted me $200 and seemed very interested in why I was asking and if I was having any problems with the unit. I told them "no, I was just curious". They also registered my call getting my name and serial#.
Your guys are right the units that are defective seem to be going in the fist year and sony for the most part will warrenty them for you thats not the problem what the problem is is the wait in which it will take to get the parts they need to do so. next time you call ask them what the wait time is for a buld and a color board those are having alot of problems as well and see what they say. i sell these tv's and have had customers tell me that they were told it would be anywhere from 2-6 months before they could get them the parts they needed. good luck with yours and hope you don't have to go through what everyone else seems to be going through.
