New member Username: HolmesPost Number: 1 Registered: Apr-05 | I am so confused, somebody please explain this weird phenomenon: Recently two DVD players of mine have gone kaput, in exactly the same way. The first one was a Panasonic I've had for about 3 years. I moved house, set it up and everything was fine for about 3 weeks, then it suddenly stopped recognising DVDs. After inserting the disc it flashed "reading" for about 5 minutes and then displayed the "no disc" message. No matter what I did it would still play CDs but not DVDs. I assumed it had got damaged in the move, but now I'm not so sure. So my parents gave me their machine (a Sony, and about 2 years old) as they were buying a new one. This one worked fine for 2 months, and then yesterday the same thing happened- "no disc" whenever a DVD is put in, but plays CDs fine. The only things the 2 broken machines have in common is that they were both modified with a multi-region chip (but now play no regions at all) and they were in the same corner of my living room when they died. Do multi-region chips expire and kill the player? Or is there something about that corner of the room that could be affecting them? Or is it just a coincidence and the lasers in both machines packed up at around the same time? I'm loathe to buy an new machine until I know the reason, in case it happens again. Can anyone help at all? |

rboca Unregistered guest | what would the cost be (more or less) to get the spindle motor fixed. I guess my question is "is it worth it / or just buy a new Dvd player?" |

See if there is any discoloration mark on the centre rotary grip which falls in line with the lens laser around the central periphery of the disc. Scratch it out and fix it back. |
