Faulty Plasma Screen Sony

We have a 18 month Sony KE-42TS2U and paid 6k for it. Within the last 2 months, we have had a black line running lengthwise through the screen like a pinstripe running down a cars body. Sony came out to inspect it ans the Tech said that it was a faulty screen and that sometimes that happens and you get a lemon. And that someone from Sony would call with and estimate to repair it. The cost for a faulty panel that goes bad, 3295.95. Does anyone else have this issue? And who has a lawsuit going against this issue? I would like to hop on board. There is no reason in hell that a TV that you pay for that is as much as a small car should break in 18 months and cost almost as much to repair as it does to buy it. Any help out there?

I guess you convinced me to get an extended warranty on my new plasma.

Consumer Reports recommend xtended warranties on Plasma and LCD TVS. CR normally does not recommend Xtend waranties as a good buy
