Convert VHS to Mini DV using Panasonic NV-GS11

I am using a scart to s-video lead. The scart end comes from the VCR and the s-video goes into the camcorder. I press play on the VCR and record on the cam but the LCD on the cam is blank.

any ideas...I am using an old Matsui VP 9505
