Hi, im new to this forum so im sorry if i leave out any important details
My girlfriend has a JVC XV-N412S but shes not a bid DVD watcher when she's at home so she hasn't had much use for it, but for the most part it has worked fine and we've watched maybe 5 dvds on it without any problems. Last night we went to go watch a movie on her DVD player and starting at the menu screen the movie would dim in and out. it would get really dark, lighten up to normal light then go back down. So we took the dvd out, tried it in another player on another tv and it worked fine. So we tried another DVD and this one was fine up until we actually hit play on the dvd menu Once the movie actually started, it began the dimming. Once again, trying the DVD in another player/tv with it working fine. Ive checked the cables but everything was fine and theyre brand new cables.
Does anyone have any thoughts? could it be the dvd player? could it be the TV? could it be the cables?
I thought it might be the TV since its got a built in VCR so it might have the anti-copy bs going on, but that still doesnt explain why the majority of DVDs worked fine on it up until now (months ago we did have this happen on 1 dvd but assumed it was the DVD not the player but now we've tried it on another tv/dvd player and it works fine)
anyway, if anyone has any ideas, please let me know
thank you in advance

I had the same problem with my Toshiba SD-1600. The picture dimmed in and out on 2 DVDs, but it didn't do it on all the DVDs I tried. The TV is older and doesn't have hook ups so I have to run everything through my VCR (Toshiba W-604). Does anyone have any suggestions?

The VCR is the problem. In most cases you can't use a VCR because of the copyguard on the disc. You need an RF modulator.

If it is the VCR, why is it only on a few DVDs and not all of the ones that I play. I have the DVD hooked up to the Line inputs (L1) on my VCR.

Thanks.

Some are probably more heavily copy protected than others, IE Disney movies.

With a combo you would need a stabilizer.

I don't think Radio Shack sells them. I've seen them on e-bay. Some work better than others with DVDs. I have one of these that works pretty good with most equipment. http://mcm.newark.com/NewarkWebCommerce/mcm/en_US/endecaSearch/searchPage2.jsp?x =13&Ntt=digital+video+stabilizer&Nty=1&N=4&y=6&Ntk=gensearch
They have a $25 minimum, if you don't spend that much they add $5 to the order. So if you could find something else you want for $5 you would basically get it for free since you are going to have to pay $25 either way.
