I just bought a 42" Toshiba Plasma (42HP84). I connected a Samsung M101 DVD player to it. I put in the widescreen DVD's but only get the 4:3 version. I have to actually change the PIC settings on the TV to get 16:9 on DVD's. On HD cable I get an awesome 16:9 HD picture with no alterations needed. My question is, do you have to change settings on all widescreen TV,s in order to watch a widescreen DVD or is it just my Toshiba? I even went into the DVD player settings and changed it 16:9 and tried other players.
That's because on HD the native resolution/display is generally widescreen. No, you do not have to constantly change the settings on all tvs? Some you intially set the tv to widescreen mode and it displays sources that conform to that setting in widescreen.
