I have my television connected to the cable box via the DVI which I am told by the cable people is the best hookup. However, while the picture on digital channels and hd channels are great, other channels are not as clear. The dvd is connected through the receiver to the tv via component cables, no problem there. Do you think a calibration of the tv would be in order? Any advice?

Standard channels of course will not be as clear as digital and HD channels because they're using a lower and interlaced resolution. (and quality on those standard channels can vary greatly too) Try also feeding the cable via the coax inputs. You'll have too change between input modes too see each type, but the DRC circuitry might help then.
Not a bad suggestion about switching to a diffent set of analog cables but i would go with s-video instead of coaxial. that way you will get the best from the analog as well you will still have to switch but once you get used to it it seems to work out just fine.
