What's the deal with samsung's 4674 series. I looked on Samsung's website and it's not even listed there anymore. Instead I see a 4677. I also read somewhere 4674's aren't going to be produced anymore and will be replaced by the 4677. Is this true? If it is, why? Please shed some light on this for me. I was ready to buy a 4674 but am now leary about this.

The FCC has mandated that by 2006 all new televisions must support the reception of digital HD broadcasts. Manufacturers are starting to comply.

The 74 series, which is HD Ready, but has an old style NTSC tuner is being replaced with the 77 series with an internal HD tuner and CableCard technology. Otherwise, it's the same chip and display.
Personally, I don't want my HD tuner inside my set. I sure as hell don't want to use a CableCard. Both can be bypassed.

There are still thousands of 74's out there for sale!

Does the 74 have any issues with game lag? I'd like to play video games on my tv and lag would be an issue.

The 5067 is currently the only Samsung that has no audio/video game delay. All the others have a slight to moderate delay with PS2 or Xbox gaming. Some folks have had success with using progressive scan mode and component cables when gaming on the Samsung models. The game has to support PS, though.

You said only the 5067 doesn't experience gaming lag. Would that include the 4667 as well. As far as I can tell, it's the same tv, just different screen size.

I don't think so, the way this reads.
Here is the post from Jeff.

There is currently only ONE Samsung DLP that has no video game issues, it is the HLP5067 (50"). This information came directly from the mouth of the guy (Derek the product specialist) at Samsung who is THE guy who tests video games on the Samsung DLP's. I have a HLN507 that they are replacing. Since you have a smaller one, if you want to replace yours with a HLP5067 you will have to pay the difference in price. Call 800-747-5618

Can anyone explain exactly what causes the lag problem with video games?

The HLR-4677 shipped last week. I have one on order from ListenUp in Colorado. Roughly $2,450 with shipping which is the best price I have seen for the HLP-4674. I don't plan on using the tuner or cablecard as my TimeWarner DVR offers HD DVR's with HDMI outputs. I figure newer is better.
