I have an RCA Scenium DLP model HD50LPW162.

I currently connect my DVD via component directly to TV. Would picture quality improve if I would upcovert the signal from 480 to 720 using my Denon AVR1905 receiver? ie. does the receiver generally do a better job at upconversion than does the TV??

I want to know before dropping $75 on new set of component cables.

It will depend on whose scaling chip is better. The TV or the Reciever. Best thing to do is try both, and go with what looks best to you.

You ain't going to notice anything if you don't connect the dvd player to the tv with HDMI. Done alot of research on this topic and the only way to get an upconverted signal from the dvd player to tv is through HDMI (or DVI if you happen to have a player that has that output instead).

Thanks, I just need an extra set of cable to do the "test", just wndering if someone had a straight answer.

PS: Component output from DVD, Denon AVR 1905 receiver only supports components (not DVI)
