I purchased the older model (P50W28A) Zenith 50" HDTV-ready Plasma, refurbished, some months ago. The DVI input on the TV was disclosed as faulty at purchase. The TV has only one component input.
I had connected my HDTV cable box to the TV through the component input; everything has been working fine. I have recently decided to connect a DVD player to the TV and have tried both my low-end Samsung model and a very high-end Integra.
I have tried to connect both DVD's directly through the TV's component input and receive a "Can't Interpret" message on my TV (different than a "No Signal" message).
The folks at the audiophile store can't figure it out. The Zenith can read the cable box output via a component cable just fine, but it seems not to be able to read the DVD output. How can this be?
I have tried all the menu options available on the DVD players and my Zenith and cannot get this to work unless I connect via an S-Video or RCA calbe, which defeats the purpose of owning an HDTV and $500 Integra DVD player
Thank you in advance for your help & wisdom ------------------------------

Not sure why its not getting the signal. Might be ok to just use Svideo as you have no need for full blown HD signal from a dvd, unless you blew wad on a blue ray or compressed red laser player and the handful of DVD's with it.
Thanks for the feedback. I don't think my DVD is blue ray or compressed red laser (it's an Integra DSP 5.5 model). So I will get the full functionality of progressive scan, etc that my DVD is capable of through an S-Video cable?
