What to do with an old UltimateTV-no longer using service

I loved my UltimateTV but no longer use the service. I'd like to by a DVR but is it possible to convert the RCA UltimateTV unit into a PVR for simple recordings without using a service?

I would really like to know how to get the ui working without the service too. To be able to use it like a vcr would be nice.

Sell it on E-Bay then use the proceeds to purchase a DVR. There is always a pretty good demand for these on E-Bay.
