Panasonic DMR e85 Setup Problem..

Just got an e85 from the US thru amazon. I've tried all possible connection alternatives. I still get a distorted, b&white picture from my Humax sat.box and even from my Panasonic VCR. Is the unit defective ..or can someone help. Thanks .
